The Chamber of Vembanad Hotels and Resorts (CVHR), the apex body representing the tourism and hospitality sector in Kumarakom, recently held discussions with Hon. Kerala Tourism Minister Shri P. C. Vishnunadh and sought an audience with Hon. Chief Minister Shri V. D. Satheesan to invite them to Kumarakom for a comprehensive stakeholder meeting focused on the sustainable development of tourism in the region.

A delegation from CVHR met the Hon. Tourism Minister and presented a detailed memorandum outlining the opportunities, challenges, and developmental priorities of Kumarakom, one of Kerala’s most iconic backwater tourism destinations. The delegation highlighted the urgent need for coordinated efforts to strengthen infrastructure, improve connectivity, enhance destination marketing, promote responsible tourism practices, and address issues affecting the long-term competitiveness of Kumarakom.

The meeting with Hon. Tourism Minister Shri P. C. Vishnunadh was highly positive and constructive. The Minister appreciated the initiatives undertaken by CVHR and acknowledged the concerns and recommendations presented by the delegation. He assured the representatives that a suitable date for the proposed stakeholder meeting in Kumarakom would be communicated at the earliest.

CVHR expressed confidence that the proposed meeting would provide an important platform for meaningful dialogue between the Government, tourism industry stakeholders, local self-government institutions, community representatives, and tourism experts. Such collaborative discussions are expected to contribute significantly towards formulating strategies for the sustainable growth and future development of Kumarakom as a world-class tourism destination.

The delegation also sought to meet Hon. Chief Minister Shri V. D. Satheesan to personally extend the invitation and present the development proposal. However, despite a prior appointment, the meeting could not take place due to the Chief Minister’s exceptionally busy schedule and large number of public engagements.

Nevertheless, the invitation letter and detailed proposal memorandum were formally handed over to the Chief Minister’s Secretary with a request to place the documents before the Hon. Chief Minister for his consideration.

CVHR remains optimistic about receiving a positive response from the Government and looks forward to working closely with all stakeholders to strengthen Kumarakom’s position as Kerala’s premier backwater tourism destination.

As tourism continues to play a vital role in the economic development of the region, CVHR believes that timely policy interventions, infrastructure improvements, environmental conservation initiatives, and destination promotion efforts will be essential to ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth for Kumarakom and the wider Vembanad Lake region.
